*Avimimus*, while not usually considered to be a member of Aves, is
reported to have fusion of the wrist and hand bones.  In *The
Dinosauria*, there is on page 285 (paperback) a drawing of the relevant
elements, and the condition is described as a carpometacarpus.  So, this
character may go back farther than Aves, if this interpretation is
correct (and if *Avimimus* isn't a secondarily-flightless member of
