Sociobiology
Since dinosaur behavior is a continuing fascination to
us all, and a not-infrequent topic here (KILLER PINK
DROMAEOSAURS LEAPING AT EACH OTHER AS THEY PLUNGE INTO
EXPLODING VOLCANOES -- IT HAPPENED!), I think this
question may have some relevance.
I am considering picking up Wilson's SOCIOBIOLOGY in
order to bone up on the topic (like most science
writing <<ahem>>, it's said to be a true snooze, but
extremely useful). Greg Wenzel recommends it highly.
The copy I've seen in the bookstores is soft-covered,
and *abridged.*
If you know both editions (the full enchilada and this
abridged version), please let me know, offlist, if you
lose anything really substantial by reading the
abridged, particularly if you're reading to cull
information that might have relevance to understanding
dinosaur behavior. For instance, a quick skimming of
the abridged version seemed to suggest that reptiles
and birds do not get their own chapter(s) -- if I saw
correctly, it goes straight from social insects to
mammals.
Thanks.
