dinosaurs in fiction
I just finished an interesting book, Dinosaur Summer by Greg Bear. The premise
is that Arthur Conan Doyle's Lost World story was true. Dinosaurs were taken
captive and displayed in zoos in the US until waning public interest,
mishandling and disease put an end to the fad. An expedition was mounted to
return the last of the circus dinos to their home on the tepui in South
America. The book was an easy read, entertaining, and had a mixture of real
and fictional human and dinosaur characters. A fascinating creation in the
book was an avian successor to large carnivorous theropods. Lots of feathers
around on all the creatures. Light reading but fun.
