Lions of Savuti
I apologize for posting on this subject but some will find it of enough
interest IMO.
Reference: The Lions of Savuti Hunting With the Moon by Joubert and
Joubert; ISBN 0-7922-7020-7. page 113: "<snip>Most kills are young
elephants, but we have witnessed lions bringing down full-grown elephants as
well". At the time of authorship the Joubert's had been in the Savuti for
13 years with 23,000 hours of observation, had witnessed 5000 hunting
attempts and viewed 1500 kills.
If I remember correctly this subject was to tie in POSSIBLE relationships of
carnivorous dinosaurs with prey much larger than themselves in POSSIBLE
cooperative hunting technique.
Best,
Michael Teuton
