State of the paleo market

One depressing but continuing thread of conversation during the
symposium concerned the lack of suitable jobs in paleontology. Many
were either looking for jobs or worried that their appointments would
be running out soon, and what would they do then? (K-Mart was
mentioned, and that is not as in the K/T.). It would seem that going
to college and graduate school, culminating in a doctorate in paleontology,
is the easy part. Employment is the difficult-to-impossible transition.

Those students considering paleontology as a career should get
a minor in a field where they might actually be able to make a living.
