Crocs and birds both have proper four-chambered hearts, and their
embryological development is similar to each other, but dissimilar to
that of a mammal.

However, crocs modify their four-chambered hearts by adding a valve
between the aortae such that partially deoxygenated blood can be
reshunted to the body while the animal is submerged.
