West Texas Beasties

Hi All,
I just got back from Austin. On Sunday, the Texas Memorial Museum was
celebrating their 60th birthday, the 50th birthday of the UT Austin
Paleo Lab, and the 65 millionth birthday (more or less) of Q northropi.
Wann and Doug Lawson were guests and talked, and I stood up and waved at
the audience and grinned and generally felt and acted silly. The punch
and cake were good, and the talks mostly short and to the point. This
was the first time I'd seen the new Qn replica all complete, in one
piece, and overhead. That sucker is BIG. I was impressed and decided
not to stand underneath the mount, as there were only four cables
holding it up. What with seven feet of skull and ten feet of neck, and
a healthy amount of other stuff stuck here and there, it would make a
heck of a lawn dart. I also found that a round trip from Memphis to
Austin by car takes 26 hours. Yuck. If anyone wants to know more,
holler.
All the best,
Jim
