I find the idea that Atlascopcosaurus
may be the plesiomorphic sister group of Mutt. appealing (Hints at a
uniquely Australian lineage - the "Muttaburasauridae" perhaps?).

That would be neat! (Especially since the Hypsilophodontidae looks like being carved up anyway in the near future.) The similarities noted by Molnar are in the teeth. In fact, says Molnar, for a second _Muttaburrasaurus_ skull (QM F14921, _Muttaburrasaurus_ sp.) the teeth are strikingly similar to those of _Atlascopcosaurus_. The development and arrangement of ridges on the maxillary teeth in QM F14921 are in some ways more similar to the teeth of _Atlascopcosaurus_ than the holotype of _Muttaburrasaurus_.
