Dinosauricon Data Files
Let me just clarify my earlier offer:
Most of The Dinosauricon's pages are automatically generated from a few
large text files that hold all the information. The two major ones are
GENERA.TXT and TAXA.TXT.
GENERA.TXT holds all 900+ genus entries. Currently it is 356Kb in
size. Here's an example of the format:
GENUS Leptoceratops
FILENAME leptocer
WITHTYPE
MEANING "slender horned face"
SPECIES gracilis
AUTHOR Brown
YEAR 1914
END
SPECIES cerorhynchus
OBJECTIVE Montanoceratops cerorhynchus
END
SPECIES sp.
PLACE Alberta
AGE middle Campanian
REMAINS dentaries
END
AGE Maastrichtian
PLACE Alberta
PLACE Wyoming
LENGTH 1.5
LENGTH 3
MASS 55
REMAINS 5 skulls (3 complete), skeletons
ESSAY
Bipedal or facultatively quadrupedal.
END
END
Compare with http://dinosaur.umbc.edu/genera/leptocer.htm
TAXA.TXT hold information for the 47 taxon pages. It is currently 164Kb.
It holds the cladograms, the essays, and other bits of information
pertaining to the higher-level taxa.
There's also SPECS.TXT, which documents the format used in these and other
files.
I can e-mail these to anyone who wants them. I should have mentioned this
before, but it would be more convenient for me if you e-mail requests to
mike@dinosaur.umbc.edu instead of tkeese1@gl.umbc.edu.
(To those who already asked, could you e-mail me at mike@dinosaur.umbc.edu
and verify that you want these somewhat large files e-mailed to you?)
