if it was a very large chicken egg that hatches into a triceratops circa
1960's-ish then it's    THE ENORMOUS EGG

a bronze statue of Uncle Beazley the triceratops is on the Green at the
Smithsonian as the Smithsonian zoo was the people that ended up with the
dino in the book/film.
The movie had the kid riding the Triceratops and the effect was
acomplished by making a life size top half of a triceratops and rolling
it around.
