SVP info
Howdy, folks.
Finally got my copy of the latest Journal of Vert. Paleo. (which is
chockfull of great papers in and of itself, including but not limited to:
the first definite North American alvarezsaurid; archosaur ankle joints and
phylogeny; titanosaurid osteoderms; a new description of _Montanaceratops_
and basal neoceratopsian phylogeny; and theropod footprints from New England).
Included was also the abstract volume for next weeks SVP meeting. Damn, but
there are a lot of good talks!!
Not that I suggest people only go to dinosaur talks (which would be a shame,
since there is a lot of other interesting aspects to vertebrate history),
but if one were to, you'd still find conflicts on which room to go to.
Here's a general synopsis of the symposia and lectures:
Wed. morning Symposia
The Armored Dinosaurs; Preparation of Vertebrates; 3D Scanning and Computer
Modeling of Vertebrate Fossils (with a LOT of dino papers!); Ecology of
Fossil Vertebrates (with a couple of dino talks)
Wed. afternoon
Vertebrate Paleo. Research on BLM land (with some dino talks); Gondwana
Dinos; Eocene Verts.; Isotopic Ecology of Fossil Verts (with a couple of
dino talks).
Thurs. morning
Plenary sessions include a fair number of dino related papers
followed by Romer Prize Talks (unopposed, for once) with a few dino papers.
Thur. afternoon
Posters. Lots of everything
Fri. morning
Mammals in one room; dinos in another
Fri. afternoon
Fish and amphibians in one room; dinos in another
Sat. morning
Mammals in one room; dinos (and a couple of croc papers) in another
Sat. afternoon
mixed bag in both rooms, with a few dino papers in both.
I fear brain overload from this meeting: too much new information!
Take care, all.
