Re: "T-rex&theCommetofDoom"

Jessica,

Never, never, judge a book by its cover--front or back. Actually, the title
of the book you saw is "T. rex and the crater of doom", not the "comet of
doom". The book is written by Walter Alvarez, professor emeritus of physics
at Lawrence Berkeley Laboratory, University of California at Berkeley. Walter
and his father, Luis Alvarez, authored the article in June of 1980 that began
the debate on the impact theory of extinction at the K/T boundary
(Extraterrestrial Cause for the Cretaceous-Tertiary Extinction. Louis
Alvarez, Walter Alvarez, Frank Asaro, Helen V. Michel . Science, 6 June 1980,
Volume 208, Number 4448.)

In my humble opinion, the book is an invaluable first hand account of the
unraveling of a major scientific mystery and is well worth the price and the
time to read it from cover to cover. It is on my shelf, next to my copy of
Watson and Crick's "The Double Helix."
