     Jim Farlow has already given you a good run-down as far as
straight academics.  I might add that if you are located near a museum
with a paleontology program, you might check to see if there is some kind
of volunteer or internship program availible.  Try contacting
paleontologists working there directly, or go through Information.
I was fortunate enough to have the Denver Museum of Natural History nearby
when I was in high school, which has as excellent volunteer program (the
internship is roughly identical, except you get credit).
