A book by its cover....

I know it's bad to judge a book by its cover, but the cover of Richard
Fortey's new book (Life: A natural history of the first four billion
years of life on Earth) caused me to hesitate buying it. The cover shows
a beautiful image of the Berlin specimen of Archeopteryx
lithographica--except it is shown as a mirror image of the actual
specimen!

Has anyone read Dr. Fortey's book? (I'm sure he had nothing to do with
the jacket.) Does anyone know the story behind the "flipped" image? A
simple mistake? Artistic license? The book is still in its first edition,
so if the image is corrected in later editions we may have a collector's
item in the works!
