Sorry for terseness of comment, which led to misunderstanding. Idea was that
you go to geology library rather than, say, humanities library, if you want
geology references. Once in the science shelves, of course flip through
everything, particularly geo and paleo bibliographic indexes, latest
Zoological Record, etc. Search out foreign journals if possible. (Not to
disparage humanities libraries, which also have interesting stuff, but not
likely to find scientific papers there.) Take time to learn layout and
organization of nearby libraries, too.
