O.K. we've got a proto-parrot in
the Cretaceous. But what about the other modern birds? Surely a bird so
specialized wasn't alone. I can't find reference right now, but there were
reports of bits and pieces of other modern birds from the Mesozoic several
decades ago: herons, ducks, flamingoes, owls, loons... Later, these finds were
discarded and attributed to small theropods, if I can recall. Is it time to
reconsider this?
