Latest papers: website
Dan Varner brought up an important point about access to papers (that is,
not everyone has it). While this isn't a 100% cure, here are a couple of
websites for the two big science journals:
Science:
http://www.sciencemag.org/content/current/
Nature:
http://www.nature.com/
Both of these allow free access to at least part of the papers published
(often the first paragraph), occasional free access to the entire paper, and
supplementary data to the studies published therein. For example, you can
go to the Nature website, log on (you have to register, but it's free) and
get the first paragraph of the Cretaceous parrot paper.
Although this doesn't give you the complete access, it does get closer to
the real stuff than you'll find in the CNN or ABC or other news sources,
which are further removed from the studies themselves.
Hope this helps.
