Re: Avian manus claws



Ratites (most), Opisthocomus, anhimid ducks, some falconiforms, Foro and 
musophagids all have *carpal* claws on their carpometacarpus.  So far, 
the only living bird that has a completely unfused carpometacarpus is 
Opisthocomus, though it is only seperate when it is young.  

INTERESTING FACT

Phorusrhacoids, Opisthocomus, musphagids, and Foro all have carpal 
claws.  All of these groups were linked to another one of these groups 
by various authors.
