Re: ad hominem

This is a point extremely well taken.

It might be helpful to remember that the members of this list are not
all professionals (not that ad hominem attacks would be acceptable even
if they were). The power of the internet to spread gossip and falsehood
is as great as it is to spread truth. 

Do we, in fact, want to present this sort of picture to "visitors" and
young "lurkers?"

No peer-reviewed journal would permit the blatant attacks and innuendos
that have become commonplace recently. 

The fact that we are all, to some extent, faceless and anonymous here,
is no excuse for simply speaking our minds about any little thing that
comes into it.

Now... as for that opportunity to exchange barbs over a large pitcher of
beer... well, you know where to find me.
