    Just my 2.5 cents.  The _Archaeopteryx_ feather found is apparently a
flight feather, based on the asymetrical positioning of the 'vane'.  Also,
it corresponds to the size and shape of the visible feathers on the
_Archaeopteryx_ specimens.

    I don't have any information on the frequency of feathers in the fossil
record since then.
