I was under the impression the northern climes offered  in general more food
for the time frame mentioned.  I was wondering, what was the paleobotany and
geography of the Aleutians in relation to the dwarf mammoth's demise and food
availability?

The archives have comments about large quanities of "food" being stuffed down
relatively small mouths in extinct and extant animals.

Both sauropods and mammoths were able to eat enough whatever their metabolism,
anatomy and food supply to successfully breed long enough to leave their
bones.
