vultures & predation
4/12/98
Hi,
Am new to list. Re: C. Adams and C. Miller discussion of vulture active
predation. Does anyone recall some years back the newspaper reports that
the black vulture in parts of the south had learned to kill in groups
small
animals? Can't recall whether it was dogs, cats, lambs, or some such. I
assume this was based upon actual observation. The main concern at the
time was that they might attack human toddlers. Maybe a search of the NY
TIMES INDEX might turn up the articles.
Re: the species that drops turtles from heights to shatter their
shells. i
recall from a family 19th century natural history tome (the book long
since
having vanished) that a classical philosopher was killed by a falling
turtle
so dropped. Probably apocryphal, but you have to admit it is a good
story.
"Cousin It", the african lungfish who also lives here, also sends
greetings
to all.
