RE: vertebrate numbers of digits

[Bill Adlam]
Polydactyly (additional fingers) occurs in humans and other tetrapods and
often results in few if any ill effects. So it is surprising that this
evolutionary avenue has so rarely been explored.
_______

I've read about a work that showed some negative pleiotropic effects of the
polydactyly gene in mammals. If I remember well, fertility was seriously
affected in males. I´m sorry, but I can't give you the reference. Maybe
tomorrow.

Excuse my English :-)
