I have read *most* of the original article.

He may not have *quite* proposed a crocodilian relationship for _Protoavis_
(and thus for birds), but the paper most certainly strongly implied that.

I am beginning to wonder if he doesn't start out with his more outre ideas
just to get people thinking.  (He once proposed and odd idea about the
origin of Tyrannosaurids, which he subsequently dropped).
