Oops, I should have said 'running from the point where the foreleg leaves the 
body to where the hindleg leaves the body'.  So not vertebrae.  The skin folds 
that Ralph Miller and David Krentz mentioned sound like they're what I mean.

        Sorry for forgetting how high up quadrupeds' limb girdles are,
