Well, by that token, why make life restorations of dinosaurs at all?  They
cannot be verified either.  Nor can most attempts at classification!  It
(vertebrate paleontology) has always seemed somewhat like  
a huge jigsaw puzzle that we're trying to put together to see what the
picture is- but the catch is not only do we not have all the pieces, not
only do we have in fact a tiny fraction of the pieces, but also that we
don't even know how many pieces there are.  But the subject is so
intriguing that speculation on all levels is something we just can't
resist.  Whether we get nearer the truth or not.
