Sauropods and those little heads

The way I've always looked at those the reasons for those "little" heads
is is to turn the question around."Why should sauropods have heads that
were any larger?"When you look at say an elephant's head you'll see that
it is huge but why?Well for whatever reason they evolved them they have
huge brains.Sauropods do not and apparently had no use for
them.Elephants use their heads for ritualistic combat, threat displays
and pushing over pesky trees.Sauropods don't show these adaptations in
their heads. Finally elephants need a large cheeked mouth with huge
muscles to process their food. They must spend time masticating plant
material into pulp BEFORE they swallow it, and can take another
mouthful.Sauropods simply would have used their mouths for an entrance
point. They (depending on the abilities of their gizzards)could take
mouthful after mouthful and I believe they could actually take in MORE
plant material in less time than a herbivore that has to chew with it's
head.
Speculation as usual,Sean C.
