Re: Preservational bias revisited

>From a preservational point of view, the location of a dino nest clearly
affects if and how well the nest is preserved, regardless of whether the
mound was made of vegetation, mud, or some other material. From a
physiological point of view, the imnportant question is whether the eggs
were covered completely by the mound material or not. Covered eggs
incubate in a very different environment (lower O2, higher CO2, higher
humidity) than eggs that are exposed to the air, and this has important
implications regarding the structural and functional properties of the
dinosaur respiratory system.
