It was nice that Speilberg decided to treat dinosaurs as animals
rather then monsters and consult with paleontologists, but I think James
Cameron is just about the only guy who should have directed Jurassic Park.
He has the rare gift of making science fiction movies that tell
intelligent and compelling human stories, and his maniac attention to
accuracy is postponing "TITANIC" until Christmas. If I remember right,
Tim Burton was one of the directors who wanted to direct JP. God,
wouldn't THAT have been a strange movie.
I think I was right in my prediction that "Lost World" the movie beat
the pants off of "Lost World" the book. My own list of serious gripes is
probably actually smaller then for JP; all the really cool scenes took
place at night (presumably to make them scarier but I would still rather
have been able to see the T.rex and steroid popping Velociraptors in a
little better detail), and the T.rex was STILL making the ground
shake when it walked. As fun as it was watching the dinosaurs, I am
puzzled as to why "Lost World" was so spectacularly un-scary. My own
theory is that JP shocked us into being scared since the dinosaurs were so
beyond anything that had ever been done. I knew what to expect for "Lost
World". Also, it was such a great looking film that I think I spent too
much time trying look at everything there was to be seen to be afraid. It
would have been nice to get a real adreniline fix, but I think I may have
preferred "Lost World" as a visual feast rather then a heart stopper.
