State fossils - Ohio

John Schneiderman added Ohio: _Isotelus gigas_ (a trilobite) to the
list of state fossils. It should be noted that this was specifically
designated the state invertebrate fossil, to leave room for a state
vertebrate fossil. As a candidate for that many in Cleveland favor
_Dunkelosteous_, the large "terrible fish" (a Devonian arthrodire) from
the Cleveland Shale. It was named after the late Dr. Dunkle, a curator
at CMNH who worked on many of the early fish finds here.
