     One other point about K and r strategies, one that I have heard
proposed as a reason why some really high K strategists (like modern
primates) are at a greater risk then r strategists:  Yeah, an animal can
take really good care of fewer offspring, but they aren't omnipotent or
all powerful, and accidents happen.  If you genetically put all your eggs
in one basket (excuse the pun) and an accident DOES happen; you can loose
the entire investment just like that.
