I know there has been lots of evidence for an impact lately with these 
new core samples, but haven't they ruled out Chicxulub as the source 
because it is already overlain with Cretaceous material? Perhaps some 
other, as yet unidentified site in the Gulf of Mexico? Maybe it is under 
water now but wasn't at the time? Gee, maybe even the impact had 
something to do with the formation of oil in the region (squeezing prior 
sediments or something)?

Just a lay persons musings, but I wish they'd agree on Chicxulub one way 
or the other.
