Re: Origin of Birds

Has anyone done any embryonic studies on the hoatzin? I wonder whether
they have anything different manus-wise, or whether the claws are
just better developed versions of regular avian digits. (Of course if
the hoatzin represents the primitve condition rather than a reversal
then it could be argued that their claws are actually under-developed
avian digits)
