 There were dwarf mammoths on an island off California, (want to say
Catalina, but not sure) and dwarf elephants (Elephas, same genus as Asian
elephant) on several islands in the Mediterranean (Crete, Malta, Cyprus,
etc.).  Most survived until humans reached the islands.  The Med species
were isolated when Gibraltar opened and the the Mediterranean was filled.

To return this to dinosaurs, I think the original question was did this
happen to any dino species?

I thought the dwarf elephants Betty described were actually dwarf Mammoths
that lasted on the island (which had been part of a larger landmass prior to
the isolation of the island).  They supposedly survived until about 3000
years
ago.  I also think that the island in question was further north closer to
Western Canada and Alaska.
