I used to tutor (i.e., run tutorials in) introductory classes in math and
computer science at the University of Toronto while I was a grad student
there (late 1960s and early 1970s). Most of the students told me they learned
much more in my tutorials than during the prof's lectures. My tutorials were
always strongly oversubscribed; all the undergrads in their courses wanted to
go to them.
