For certain.  Not only shale, but mudstone, and saline deposits (in arid
zone lakes).


P.S. "lacustrine" can be used in non-geological contexts as well, it simply
means "characteristic of lakes".  For instance one can talk about
lacustrine ecology or lacustrine environments.
