Lambeosaurid evolution
I've been thinking about this for a bit and have a question. Is it
possible that _Parasaurolophus_ and Lambeosaurus_ (Lam-o-sor-us) are
closer to eachother then they are to _Hypacrosaurus_ (including
_Corythosaurus_)? I think this might be the case because both _P_ and
_L_'s crests are made up almost entirely of Premaxilary flange II,
with a small Nasal in the middle; while _H_'s crest Is made up almost
entirely of the Nasals. I would find it odd that if _L_ was closer to
_H_ both _L_ and _P_ would have evolved such similar conditions in
what I would think wouldn't be of much functional importance. Also,
_L_ and _P_ both have more complicated nasal chambers than _H_. I'm
suggesting a cladogram like this:
B J H L P
\ \ \ \ /
\ \ \ /
\ \ /
\ /
Where B is _Bactrosaurus_, J is _Jaxartosaurus_, H is _Hypacrosaurus_,
L is _Lambeosaurus_, and P is _Parasaurolophus_.
Does this make sense to people?
