The problem is that you wouldn't be able to tell, the extinction would
be vary fast and the number of fossils would be really low. The problem
with the cancer hipothesys is that it doesn't explain why small sized
taxa went extinct (and I don't believe that you could have a large enough
neutrino flux without the blast wave from ejected matter destroying the Earth).
