r-selected = using a reproductive strategy that favors producing
large numbers of young, with minimal individual
resource investment. A classic example is the common
             dandelion.

K-selected = using a reproductive strategy that favors investing
substantial resources in a few young, including an
investment in making sure they reach maturity. Humans
are the most familiar example of this strategy (since
we take care of our young for up to 20 years).
