star gazers
you 'bone gazers' should be more careful when saying those things...
There may be a few astronomers reading this list (I think I am the
second talking about this...)
About Hoyle, he is wrong about archie but he has done important work on
astronomy. He likes to support strange theories for as he uses to say
you're wrong 90% of the time but when you get one right everybody
notices. The steady universe theory was a valid theory, explaining
many features that we observe in our universe, though it could not
explain the 3K background radiation, something the standard big-bang
model explains very well. It didn't get much suport because there was
a theory that explained the data better, not because it was awkward.
Even Lord Kelvin made the mistake to get away from his field and mess
around with the geologists. This sort of thing happens from times to
times when a physicist or astronomer get from their area of expertise.
Yet, you shouldn't do the same and try to evaluate his work in
the fields of astronomy. His reputation there his solid. Call him names
for intruding in your field, but leave his astronomical track alone.
All the best
