Re: Some more stick up the --- pronounciation stuff

In a message dated 96-01-15 00:09:36 EST, you write:

>I'm not going to learn Chinese pronunciation just so I can rattle off a few
>sinodinosaur names. Phooey. The most I'll concede is "ching-dow-saw-rus" for
>_Tsintaosaurus_. Even the Chinese pronounce sinodinosaur names like
>Americans.

I'll second that! I think it is safe to say that evryone is entilted to
pronounce scientific names any way they feel comfortable with or are capable
of. Is it not true that Chineese alone has hundreds of dialects, some of
which are so unlike each other that they are like foreign languages to other
'Chimeese" who speak a different dialect?
Remember, not all "Spanish" is the same either (different countries with
their unique dialects). Those of you who wish to blow out a blood vessel
trying to be multilingual can go ahead, I'll not be distracted from the focus
of this science by such stuff! ;->
