Just to satisfy my curiosity, what is the evidence that Harpagornis
preyed upon moas? Are there moa bones with damage consistent with
attack by the mega-eagle? Or is the idea of Harpagornis eating moas more
in the nature of a hypothesis, a supposition that the raptor was big
enough to go after Colonel Sanders' wet dreams? I can see Harpagornis
preying upon the smaller moas, but it seems less likely to me that it
would have attacked Pachyornis elephantopus or the various species of
Dinornis. Yeah, I know, it could have zapped them in their little heads,
but it still strikes me as far-fetched. So is there any hard evidence of
a predator-prey relationship between Harpagornis and moas?
