Actually, as far as I know, generic names like 'Barney' or 'Betty'
are perfectly legal even under the *current* rules of nomenclature.
It is just that one has to declare a gender for them now.

[Ooooh, creating the species _Betty dinosaurus_ would make the
genus _Betty_ *masculine* under the current rules!]
