publishing on the WEB?
Perhaps on-line publishing could work similar to abstracts. They aren't
formal publications, but there is a degree of editorial review to deny
crackpots a forum and prevent us from wasting our time on drivel. There
could be a clearinghouse, perhaps SVP in the case of dinosaurs, staffed
by volunteer professionals (who would serve a short term) to do the
screening, just like for the oral proceedings of professional societies.
Then the real publication would follow, and it would still be in a
recognized periodical and would include peer review. This would ensure
that standards of scientific publication are maintained, while allowing
the timely dissemination of discoveries and new ideas, appropriately
crediting the authors.
