Opportunity for K-12 teachers

The Colorado School of Mines (CSM) and the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) are 
jointly offering the following for-credit field course aimed at K-12 
teachers as part of CSM's Teacher Enhancement Program.  Please feel free to

FIELD COLLECTION AND LABORATORY METHODS IN VERTEBRATE PALEONTOLOGY, BIGHORN 
BASIN, WYOMING

4 semester credit hours
Dates: July 11-22, 1995
Time: 7:00am-5:00pm and 7:00pm-9:00pm
Location: Bighorn Basin, WY (start from and return to CSM, Golden, CO)

Tuition fee: $450  Fee includes all food, course materials, and 
transportation to and from Golden, CO and within Wyoming.  Lodging will be 
in tents, provided by participants.

This course provides an introduction to field and laboratory methods in 
vertebrate paleontology, including collecting, casing, mold-making, screen 
washing, identification, cataloguing, and curation. (Rules and regs on VP 
collections will be strictly taught and enforced).  The focus is on Eocene 
continental sediments and fossils. Field work also includes an introduction 
to paleosols, Paleozoic and Mesozoic invertebrate fossils, dinosaurs, plant 
megafossils, and trace fossils.  Students will learn the geologic and 
tectonic setting and paleoecology and biostratigraphy of the fossils.
