"Intelligent creatures may become too specialized"?  This seems rather an odd
comment.  Quite the opposite seems true to me.  The most intelligent
creatures that I'm aware of (primates, mostly) seem to be pretty successful
generalists -- humans, in particular!

I agree that technology is not the inevitable result of intelligence.
 However, I do think the primary evolutionary disadvantage in advanced
intelligence is that it provides an organism the ability to pursue technology
to the point of endangering nature and its own specie (as we prove EVERY
DAY!!)
