I also read a very interesting artical on the evolution of tetrapod limbs in
this months issue of Discovery (June 1995) on page 118 by Carl Zimmer who
claims that the legs on the tetrapods were formed before they came out of
the water under evolutionary pressure not related to land locomotion. He
goes out on a limb (with eight fingers- sorry coulnd't help it)
