Dinosaur Models (was Sigh, adjunct to Toys)
On the subject of accurate dinosaur models, I recall a table at a Dinosaur
Society meeting in New York last year (I think it was at the Explorer's Club,
but I'm not positive) upon which were displayed "beta" models of some quite
excellent replicas. There were two sculptors/designers, and I'm sorry to say
that I can't remember their names -- but I do recall that one of them had a
series of "Seeking dinosaur artists/sculptors" blurbs in a few '94 Dinosaur
Reports, so perhaps Thom Holmes or someone with a handy back-issue can help
out (he was also the sculptor of the Safari _Velociraptor_ model which came
out a few years ago, rather cleverly balanced on a hand-claw in running
position). I did snag a catalogue mock-up from the table; the models were
apparently supposed to be released by October, 1994, but I don't know
whether they were actually brought to market. I hope that they were, or at
least will be soon, because there are some very nice models, including a
beautiful running _Gallimimus_, charging _Triceratops_ and a _Stegosaurus
armatus_ with all of the newer features (throat "basket," near-horizontal
thagomizers, etc.). The prices were even supposed to be decent, as I recall.
Not to get off the subject of toy anecdotes (thanks, everyone! I do
appreciate it, and keep 'em coming!), but if anyone has any info on the
model series, I'd love to hear whether they're available yet.
