eggs or eggs ?

If I had  modern egg shell in thin section from various animals in the
same class, I would expect to find  eggshell from the same suborder to
have similar egg structure.
I would also expect the basic organizational group to be the same for
every animal's egg in the same family.  I believe this logic is flawed.
I just can't figure out how.
