The Paleo Society

Hey gang:

   I've had some inquiries about the Paleontological Society and thought
I'd give a quick blurb. If I can dig up my SVP member info, I'll do the
same for SVP.

The Paleontological Society is one of the biggest and most important
professional societies relevant to paleo in the world. It publishes two
major periodicals - the Journal of Paleontology and Paleobiology - as
well as the various special publications mentioned by me in a previous
posting. It is a North America centered organization with world-wide
membership. There are a number of others with great merit as well including the
British version (the Palaeontological Assoc. I believe - puts out the journal
Palaeontology) and the European Society that puts out Lethaia. The Paleo
Society also puts out their newsletter Priscum.

To join, contact the Paleontological Society via the Office of the
Secretary, United States Geological Survey, Box 25046, Mail Stop 919,
Denver Federal Center, Denver CO 80225-0046   USA.

Regular membership (gets JP) is $59. Student (gets JP) is #36,
Spouse (with regular spouse only - only 1 copy of JP is received
by family $11).

Paleobiology is $33 for members, $35 for non-members and $20 and $23
for student members and non-members respectively.

I enjoy my membership and feel it is important to support the science
through the organization and would encourage anyone to consider joining
this or any of the organizations relevant to their region (or all if
you got the bucks).  That's it.
